Workshop,

As part of a new series of Autumn Workshops presented by Galway Arts Centre and Cúirt International Festival of Literature

In this practice-based workshop, we’ll dive into the practicalities of nonfiction writing projects. Whether you’re working on personal essays, journalism, autofiction or narrative nonfiction, writing about real people and true stories is complicated. Join us as we workshop how to pitch nonfiction, discuss working with living subjects, and explore best practices for document-based research and source building.

Ali Watkins is a writer, photographer and journalist. A Pulitzer finalist, she is an alumna of Temple University in Philadelphia and has covered stories around the world, focusing on issues of violence, identity and conflict. Her recent book, The Next One is For You, investigated Irish-American gunrunning to the IRA and was critically acclaimed by The New York Times Book Review. She lives between Galway and Belfast, where she covers international news for The New York Times. She is currently working on a nonfiction book investigating the Contemporary Christian Music industry in America, and a separate collection of essays examining journalism, America, and immigrant identity.
