Open Submission for PROFESSIONAL visual artists

Galway Arts Centre invites professional Visual Artists, curators and other Visual Art practitioners working in all media to submit for inclusion in the 2019 Visual Art gallery programme.Applicants should include the following:
o Cover Letter
o CV including website details
o Recent images of work & Artist Statement PDF
o Links to moving image and / or sound work, where applicable
o Reviews or critical texts, where applicable

Gallery Programme:
Galway Arts Centre’s Visual Art Programme is an integral part of the cultural footprint of Galway city and county, providing an accessible, engaging and challenging programme to people of all ages. It supports and facilitates innovative work from professional Irish and international artists in all media. It aims to support, contribute to and strengthen the artistic infrastructure in both city and county by exhibiting work from both emerging and more established artists in solo and group exhibitions. Galway Arts Centre’s Visual Art Policy has the objective of providing a clear access point for audiences to engage with a variety of media, artists, ideas and visual art practices. The gallery aims to provide space for a variety of styles of work, in order to meet the needs of its wide audience. The gallery also links in with a variety of partners to produce a significant education programme that caters for some of the wide range of communities in our city and county.All applications will be assessed by members of Galway Arts Centre’s Visual Arts Panel, which comprises of the Head of Visual Art, the Visual Arts specialist from the current Board of Directors and one member of Red Bird Youth Arts Collective.
The panel will shortlist practitioners for the gallery programme, and then the Head of Visual Art will work with them in the lead up to the exhibition. In some cases artists may be invited to participate in a group exhibition with other artists. It is the policy of Galway Arts Centre for the Head of Visual Art to work closely alongside artists in the development of their exhibition and also to curate exhibitions, talks, seminars and other, more fluid ways of negotiating the gallery space. It is the policy of Galway Arts centre to be open and supportive of new ideas, while adhering to methods of best practice. Its curatorial strategy is one of support, dialogue, critical reflection and facilitation. All exhibitions are pending funding.
Submissions are for solo & group exhibitions in 2019
Irish & international submissions welcome.
