Shampain EP Launch Party

After almost a decade as one of the world’s most enigmatic and colourful DJs, Shampain has emerged from the cave which is his studio to bring to life a stunning 5 track debut mixtape; ‘Catching Up With Myself’. To celebrate the Galway DJ and now producer is throwing a once-off launch party in the unique environment of Nun’s Island Theatre in order to mark a momentous step in his storied music career.

Making up for lost time is the theme of the 5-tracker; be it his 10 years in music without recording his own original tracks, wanton moves abroad in search of greener pastures, or an overall inability to keep his mind on one thing – ‘Catching Up With Myself’ acts as a sampler to the wider Shampain production catalogue that’s to come over the coming 12 months.

Produced entirely using a variety of hardware and an idiosyncratic production process, the mixtape touches upon the worlds of ambient Vs. club, festival-bangers, underground classics and major motion picture music as we’re thrust inside the mind of Galway’s dance music mastermind.

The feature single, ‘One Royal Morning’ features vocals from Bethany O’Sullivan, reciting her poem ‘Swallowing The Sun’. The track is a certified Galway summer hit, taking us on an audio tour of the city’s beauty on a summer’s morning, while Bethany’s voice simultaneously tempts us towards a more rural path….

A duo of club/dance tracks insulate either side of the single, starting with ‘Repetitive Brain Injury’ – an off-kilter, repetitive banger that is purpose built for any stage of a DJ set. ‘Based Against Time’ manages to melt together some Ilian Tape-style drums with 2025 Underground sounds and synths to create a bass heavy dancefloor destroyer.

Sonic inspirations on the album vary from Voam to Tectonic Recordings as well as artists such as DJ Babatr, 1morning, AYYA & many more you’ll be able to pick up on the more and more you listen.

‘Catching Up With Myself’ releases officially on FREAK MAG on June 13th, with a special edition continuous mix CD of the EP available to purchase on Bandcamp.
