Red Bird Youth Collective Seeks New Members

Red Bird is currently seeking new members between the ages of 15 and 24 who have a keen interest in the arts. Those involved will learn the basics of art making, administration for the arts, event management, curation and work with professionals from visual art, architecture, film and much more.

Red Bird Youth Collective is a visual art group for young people living in Galway city & county. It was established in September 2011 by Galway Arts Centre, and has received funding from the Arts Council & Galway county Council to deliver large scale; youth led projects in collaboration with professional artists. ‘Red Bird’s’ mission statement is to be a youth group run by youths that endeavours to encourage and support creativity for young people in the surrounding community.

To date the group have worked with Louise Manifold on a visual art exhibition which took place in Galway Arts Centre. Red Bird are currently in post-production with an original science fiction film, working with filmmakers Jonathan Sammon and Ruadhrí Brennan which will be screened in Nuns Island Theatre in early 2013.

The next project the group will embark on is an Engaging with Architecture project entitled ‘Shaping Space’ with artist and architect Blaithin Quinn. The project is funded by the Arts Council. ‘Shaping space’ explores the West End of Galway city and the potential for space for young people and creative projects. Emphasis is placed on encouraging audiences to engage with Galway’s architecture. ‘Shaping space’ will culminate in an exhibition and seminar in Nuns Island Theatre in March 2013.

Red Bird will also work with Galway Arts Centre to curate and manage a group exhibition of professional artists’ work in May 2013.

The other requirements for being a part of Red Bird is to commit fully to attendance of workshops, the schedule is provided in advance and takes place primarily on weekends.
