“Gripping…humorous” play to be staged at Galway Arts Centre’s Nuns Island Theatre

WE ALL get stressed. Occasionally we may feel isolated, ashamed, or terrified. There are days when we worry about how others will react to us.

Sometimes that is how any of us can feel, but imagine if you felt like that all the time, so much so you believed your minutest actions could have a catastrophic effect on those closest to you.

Sarah was diagnosed with OCD a decade ago and she wants to tell you her story. This is OCD Me, the opening show of the Galway Theatre Festival, presented by the Just Friends Collective. It will be performed in the Galway Arts Centre’s Nuns Island Theatre. It stars Laura Whelan and is directed by Aisling Smith.

In this show, Sarah (Whelan), will describe what it is like to live with OCD and why there is much more to it than the stereotypes we see on TV, like obsessive hand-washing – though in her case that is definitely part of it.

The play has won critical acclaim. The Scotsman described Whelan’s performance as “gripping and physically taut, but also warm and humorous”. North West End called the play an “important mark in the sand” and said it has “broad appeal to all of us enduring the human condition”.
