Part of Gallery Lates

As part of Gallery Lates join us for a late opening of Deviations, John Rainey’s exhibition at Galway Arts Centre.

Open until 9pm, this informal evening viewing offers visitors a relaxed opportunity to explore the exhibition after hours and spend time with Rainey’s new body of work.

Free admission. All welcome.

Working across sculpture and installation, Rainey’s practice explores themes of transformation, reconstruction and material memory, drawing on references from classical statuary, mythology and archaeology. Deviations brings together a new body of work that considers how objects, histories and narratives are continually reshaped through time.

John Rainey is a sculptor based in Belfast. He received an MA in Ceramics and Glass from the Royal College of Art (London, 2012), and a BA in Contemporary Crafts from Manchester Metropolitan University (2009). Rainey’s work has had solo presentations at Marsden Woo Gallery (London, 2013), Golden Thread Gallery (Belfast 2016) Naughton Gallery (2021) and BERG Gallery (Stockholm, 2019, 2022). His sculptures are held in public collections including the UK Government Art Collection, the Irish National Collection, the Ulster Museum, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Collection.

This takes place as part of our late night programme “Gallery Lates” supported by Galway City Council and the Department of Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sports as part of the Galway City Night-Time Economy Action Plan.
