Join us for a special Gallery Lates workshop exploring John Rainey’s exhibition Deviations through the Irish language, led by Galway-based artist and curator Ciara Corscadden Hennessy.
Ciara’s practice examines the ongoing impact of colonial and technological legacies, and the systems of power they sustain. Through their work, they explore how identity, memory and embodiment are shaped by wider social and material structures.
Using conversation, close looking and Irish-language interpretation, the workshop will open up new ways of engaging with the themes, materials and artworks within Deviations. No previous knowledge of Irish is required and all levels are welcome.
Ciara is Co-Director of 126 Artist-Run Gallery and Studios and VISTA Co-ordinator for Galway International Arts Festival 2026. Their recent curatorial projects include Fite Fuaite, Anarchive and Avril Corroon’s solo exhibition Pry.
Gallery Lates is Galway Arts Centre’s after-hours programme of talks, performances and events, offering new ways to encounter contemporary art in an informal setting.
Ciara Corscadden Hennessy is a Galway-based visual artist and curator whose practice explores the ongoing impact of colonial and technological legacies and the systems of power they support. They use artistic practice as a tool to examine how identity, memory, and embodiment are shaped within broader social and material infrastructures. Currently a Co-Director of 126 Artist-Run Gallery and Studios, Galway, and working as the VISTA Co-ordinator for the Galway International Arts Festival 2026. In 2025, they worked with TULCA Festival of Visual Arts as Irish Language Education Officer (Oifigeach Oideachais). Their curatorial projects include Fite Fuaite (126 Artist-Run Gallery and Studios, 2025), a performance art event & collective, later included as part of Still, We Gather at the Galway Arts Centre (2026); Anarchive (Artlink Fort Dunree, 2025); and Pry, a solo exhibition by Avril Corroon at 126 Artist-Run Gallery and Studios (2026).
This workshop takes place as part of our late night programme “Gallery Lates” supported by Galway City Council and the Department of Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sports as part of the Galway City Night-Time Economy Action Plan.
