‘For mixed race Irish people in reality our ancestry, our roots, our blood are Irish and we are proud of it.’
I Am Irish is a celebration of diversity and in collaboration with the Galway Anti Racism Network (GARN), it is making its debut in Galway with this impressive creative experience brought together in the Galway Arts Centre in Galway’s West End.
Inspired by a persisting lack of representation of the Black Irish experience, Lorraine Maher launched the project #IAmIrish to celebrate Mixed race Irish people and to question the concept of ‘Irishness’ and what an authentic Irish identity means for Irish communities today.
The exhibition runs from Tuesday 4th December to Friday 14th December. There will be a launch event on Friday 7th December and a Panel Discussion on Thursday 13th December.
