Fighting Words workshops for Primary school groups run EVERY FRIDAY throughout the school calander year

Galway Arts Centre is home to Fighting Words Galway. Established by Roddy Doyle and Sean Love in 2009, Fighting Words helps students to develop their writing skills and explore their love of writing. Workshops are created and run by volunteer writing tutors, who are trained in child protection and Garda vetted.

Fighting Words workshops are available to all Primary schools throughout Galway City and County every Friday throughout the school calander year. All classes from 1st – 6th are facilitated. Each workshop facilitates a class of approx. 30 pupils. All tutoring is free. Workshops are currently delivered virtually.

BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL
To inquire about booking your class into one of these workshops email your interest to galway@fightingwords.ie

Working together, with the help of our volunteer tutors, the children write an original story which they see being typed up onto a big projection screen as it is being written. The children decide on the characters and plot and go through the story together sentence by sentence, editing as they go. A volunteer artist is also on hand to provide illustrations. The class writes the first part of the story together as a group, then each child has the opportunity to write their own individual ending to the story, with the assistance and encouragement of our volunteer tutors.

Volunteers include professional writers – novelists, screen-writers, journalists, poets – aspiring writers, student teachers, retired teachers and many more people who are just keen to be involved in creative work.
