Shadow Songs
For the Disquiet Nights Late Night series Ceara Conway presents Shadow Songs, an immersive song cycle of newly composed material, cover songs and traditional folk songs, reappropriated in contemporary form. For Shadow Songs, Ceara will be joined by her collaborators, acclaimed musicians Matthew Nolan on electric guitar, synth and Kevin Murphy on cello, with cameo performance by Daniel Guinnane on trumpet.

Ceara Conway is an independent Irish contemporary vocal and visual artist. In her artworks she uses performance, song, text and forms of visual art (photography, sculpture and video) to explore social issues such as migration, the ecological crisis and feminist concerns. Central to her work is an interest in the utilisation of traditional and contemporary lament to explore how we, as individuals and communities express and experience loss and grief in response to social and humanistic issues.
Ceara has shown and performed work widely internationally and in Ireland, including The Museum of Fine Art Florida, STABLE Gallery, Washington, The National Concert Halll, the Katzen Arts Centre, Washington, the Barbican, UK, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Irish Museum of Modern Art, Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum, Galway Arts Centre and the National Gallery of Ireland. Her track An Caoineadh was nominated for the RTE Folk Awards in 2022.
Recent work include a series of International and national performances withI arla Ó Lionáird as part of Niamh’s McCann’s commission ‘’someone decides hawk or dove’’.
Disquiet Nights is curated by Megs Morley and Produced by the Black Gate Galway. Supported by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media through the Late-Night Events (Pilot Programme).
