On Thursday 28th May at 6pm Galway Arts Centre will open its third May exhibition, ‘The World Shrinks For Those Who Own It’ featuring new work by Galway based artist Jim Ricks and Frankfurt based artist Oliver Heinzenberger. The exhibition explores the differences in peoples’ movement; for some travel is a luxury and  recreational, where for others it marks a dangerous and often illegal crossing of borders in search of a better life elsewhere.  Jim is known to many in Galway for being on the Board of 126, an artist-led gallery space in Queen St, and also an active member of Engage Art Studios, also based in the city centre. This is Oliver’s second time in Ireland, after taking part in ‘Welcome to the Neighbourhood’, a residency based festival in Limerick in 2008.

Also Opening in Ground floor gallery

Wednesday 27th May sees the opening if ‘Burning Bright’, an exhibition celebrating creativity in older people. The exhibition marks the end of eight weeks of process based workshops in Nursing Homes and Day Care centres in Galway City and County.
