THE WAR AGAINST CLICHÉ: A WRITING AND EDITING WORKSHOP FOR
  INTERMEDIATE WRITERS AND BLOCKED WRITERS.

  This curriculum-based course, which runs for 12 weeks (25 Sept – 11
Dec), will take place on Wednesday evenings (7-9pm) in the Arts
  Centre, 47 Dominick St.
Over the course of the twelve weeks, students will read and respond
to writing by a wide range of authors including: Voltaire,
Schopenhauer, Edward Burke, Flann O Brien, David Means, W.G. Sebald,
Tobias Wolfe, South Park, Roland Barthes, Martin Amis, Anthony Lane,
William Hazlitt, James Thurber, Donald Barthelme and Geoff Dyer. The
reading material deals with the Aims of Writing, the War Against
Cliché, Critics and Cynics, Blocked Writers, and Comedy as an Antidote> to Cynicism.

Students will also workshop each other’s writing, and will be given
the tools to edit and criticise constructively. This will enable
students to redraft their pieces using practical, concrete advice. By
