Chinese Calligraphy & Painting
This workshop will start by introducing common techniques related to Chinese soft brushes and ink. This is suitable for both beginners and advanced students. Through this workshop, the student will gain experience in Chinese ink and colors. They can learn some basic styles of Chinese traditional calligraphy and paintings, learn how to write their English name in a Chinese way and will take home with them a finished calligraphy work or a finished painting work on Xuan Paper (Rice Paper) or a framed scroll with a 2020 calendar.
60 mins Introduction and Basic Practice on Xuan Paper
20 mins break Chinese Tea Time with Chinese traditional snacks.
100 mins Finish your first Chinese Scroll Painting and your Chinese signature.
About the Tutor:
Qi Chen is a Chinese traditional portrait artist with interests in Buddhist paintings and Chinese calligraphy. He holds an Undergraduate Degree from the Art Institute of Renmin University of China where he completed a Bachelor of Painting and Calligraphy in 2008. He also went on to complete a Masters In 2012 from the China Academy of Fine Arts and 2017 a Masters degree in the History of Art from the University of Edinburgh. Currently, he is undertaking a PhD degree in the Burren College of Art in the National University of Ireland (Galway). Before attending the University of Edinburgh, he worked as a full-time artist in Hunan Painting Academy and Hunan Province Artists Association. He was the director of the Young Artists Association of Hunan Province and had the great honor of being part of the Great Wall Chinese Painting Distinguished Painters. After also taking on Chinese calligraphy throughout his education, he began teaching it at University level( Hunan University) and short courses teaching in studio as well.
