Portraiture Workshop with Caitlyn Rooke 

Learn the basics of portrait painting in oils in this 6 hour workshop. This is an opportunity for beginners or professionals who want to freshen up their life painting. This workshop includes demonstrations at each stage of the portrait and with only eight places available, expect individualized thorough feedback throughout the day.

 

Brief Outline of Concepts Covered:

Colour: Value, Hue, Saturation

Abstraction for realism

Vision & Expression

Brush care and clean up

 

Number of students: 8 max

Cost: €75 (materials not included).

 

Materials required: 

    Primed painting surface: no smaller than 12in by 16in (30cm x 40cm)

    Palette

    Palette knife

    Paper towels

    Refined linseed oil

    Liquin Original (and/or Liquin Impasto if you can find it)

    Brushes - Variety of shapes and sizes, rounds are the most versatile

    Odorless Solvent

    Suggested oil colours:

        titanium white

        cadmium yellow pale

        ultramarine blue

        alizarin crimson

        yellow ochre (or mars yellow)

        burnt umber

        pthalo blue

        permanent madder brown


Easels are provided by the Arts Centre.
