'The Head of Red O'Brien' takes place in a hospital room, where the character of the title is recovering from a near-fatal assault by his wife. The nature of the injury, arising from a frenzied knife attack, has left O'Brien without any of the cognitive processing skills. Slowly, however, they have returned. Now, on the eve of his imminent checkout, O'Brien gets the opportunity to evaluate his life,as his desires, regrets and hopes are affectionately analyzed.
Writer, Mark O Halloran crafts a tragic-comedy in which ‘Red O Brien’ reflectson the disintegration of his relationship with his wife while displaying passionate storytelling on subjects as diverse as Sean Connery, James Joyce to the ‘Cold war’. At times moving and tragic, at others funny and warm, The Head of Red O Brien is the journey of a wounded and sensitive man from conflict to resolution, ultimately towards a higher realization. The audience is further immersed into the mind of O’ Brien by the use of specially commissioned evocative imagery and sound from the visual artist Ronan Casey and by composer/musical artist Mark Long. The combination of live theatre merged with music and video artistry promises to be a uniquely captivating experience. This will be the first time this work has been presented outside Dublin.

Paddy sits on the same bench outside his flat every night, unable to sleep since the death of his wife. His elderly neighbour Imelda does her best to drive him indoors, but there’s no talking to him. Then one day Paddy is annoyed to find a troubled young man called Tony sitting on his bench…
Despite his reluctance to connect with anybody, Paddy strikes up a grudging acquaintance with Tony and discovers in him a damaged soul struggling to deal with the past and fearful of the future.
Set in a concrete landscape on the edge of playing fields, Here We Are Again Still is a moving and funny play about two broken men trying to make their way back from the margins.

This Autumn, Galway Arts Centre & Decadent Theatre Company are producing a touring production of the moving drama ‘Country Music’ by the Olivier award winning writer Simon Stephens. Originally Produced in 2006 this production proved to be a major hit in the Galway Summer Arts Festival ‘Project 06’ winning festival awards including best actor for Andy Kellegher, who plays the leading role of Jamie Carris.
Country Music is a story of crime and redemption. Spanning more than twenty years and covering the length of England from Gravesend to Sunderland, this is the life story of Jamie Carris, a troubled eighteen year old whose recklessness leaves him facing a tragic future. ‘Country Music’ describes how Jamie, a violent, illiterate 18 year-old, is sent to prison for murder. It follows his life in prison to his release and his attempts to redeem his past and build a relationship with his young daughter.
"...spare but eloquent... the imaginative sympathy of Country Music really blew me away...almost unbearably moving."
