What do we do?
Each Spring, visual artists work in 11 Nursing Units, Day Centres and Hospitals in Galway city and County for 8 weeks. They encourage and challenge older people to be creative and take risks. In May we then exhibit their work in #47 & celebrate with a Tea Dance in Nuns Island Theatre.
There are occasionally other projects with older people that connect with Burning Bright, such as last year’s active citizenship project in UCH, Mervue and Ceantar nahOileain.
Why do we do it?
We are committed to providing access to the arts for everyone. Galway’s wealth is its people, we aim to promote this and are looking forward to developing further with Galway City Council.
How do we do it?
Each year we receive €11,000 from Galway County Council and €4000 from Galway City Council. We have also received once off funding from the Community Foundation & also funding from Galway County Council to make publications.
What happens next?
We are planning next year’s project and including 2 extra things: in the city we are working with COPE Galway on a music Festival for the Mervue Thursday Lunch time Club.
In the County we are working on a large radio project with 3 care facilities, Connemara Community Radio & Flirt FM. We are also about to approach a potential corporate sponsor for 2015.
