Fighting Words story-writing workshops for SECONDARY school groups
Fighting Words workshops for Secondary school groups run EVERY MONDAY throughout the academic year
Galway Arts Centre is home to Fighting Words Galway. Established by Roddy Doyle and Sean Love in 2009, Fighting Words helps students to develop their writing skills and explore their love of writing. Workshops are created and run by volunteer writing tutors, who are trained in child protection and Garda vetted.
Fighting Words workshops are available to all Secondary schools throughout Galway City and County every Monday throughout the academic year. Each workshop facilitates a class of approx. 30 pupils. All tutoring is free. Workshops are currently delivered virtually.
BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL
Monday mornings are devoted to workshops for secondary students during the academic year. Working together, with the help of our volunteer tutors, students spend the first part of the workshop working together, as a group, creating a story initially through role play and improvisation. They then work together, developing characters, setting and plot, adding dialogue and editing as they go. Each participant then has the opportunity to work on their own, individual pieces of writing, helped and encouraged by Fighting Words volunteer tutors.
Volunteers include professional writers, novelists, screen-writers, journalists, poets, aspiring writers, student teachers, retired teachers and many more people who are just keen to be involved in creative work.
