Leaving Cert Study Day for Art History & Appreciation
5,000 years in one day @ Galway Arts Centre
For the tenth year running, Galway Arts Centre in delighted to host Leaving Cert Study Day for Art History & Appreciation in Nuns Island Theatre. It is presented by Stephan Roche from 126 Gallery, on March 15 &16, 2017, from 9.30am – 1pm.
He will cover Art in Ireland and European Art (3200BC – Present). This lecture functions as an intensive revision sessions focusing on key points – they are not intended as introductions to the topics. Handouts for each theme are provided.
From 2pm until 3pm on March 15th & 16th, students will then be brought to Galway Arts Centre where Stephan will do a lecture on Art Appreciation, visiting an exhibition. This year’s exhibition is ‘The Last Wilderness’ by Cecilia Danell, Swedish artist based in Galway since 2004. Danell’s work uses landscape as a metaphor for the exploration of the human psyche. By experiencing and documenting the Scandinavian landscape on foot she explores ideas about wilderness and solitude and how the yearning for an authentic life may be no more than a construct. Booking is extremely limited for the two lectures, the fee to attend is €5.
