As part of WE ARE HURTLING INTO THE FUTURE exhibition, Joanna Kidney will teach a class in encaustic painting on Saturday 14th January from 10am to 3pm in Galway Arts Centre. Encaustic painting is an ancient, immediate and tactile painting process using molten pigmented beeswax. The workshop will take an experimental approach to exploring the qualities of encaustic painting (texture, transparency/opacity, incising and impressing, building up/breaking down layers). Joanna most recently taught this technique to Fine Art students during a residency at Brigham Young University, Utah. Each participant of the workshop will create an encaustic painting. Digital Photography for Beginners by artist Louise Manifold is a 10 week evening course for adults. Thecourse is intended to provide a general introduction to photography and is suitable for both absolutebeginners and people with a little basic photographic knowledge wishing to develop their potential asphotographers.This 10 week course aims at working creatively with digital photography to give practical hands onexperience of working with your digital camera to gain confidence and gain knowledge of what youcamera has to offer.Each session aims to familiarize the student will DSR settings, photograph in different environments,work with composition, lighting and introduction to digital imagining.This beginners course aims to facilitate a relaxed environment that encourages the participant to findthere own creative path to produce stunning photographs.Participants must bring their own digital SLR camera.No previous experience needed.

Galway Youth Theatre are offering a theatre training programme for young people ( 14 to 18) commencing in Mid September . Various training in performance disciplines will be held at weekend workshops on Saturdays/ Sunday's from 11 to 1. The cost per term is 50 euro for 10 classes. There will be a public presentation of work at the end of the term.
