Wild Ink Botanical Ink Making workshop – Online Remote Course
Join ink maker Annie Hogg in making botanical Inks for drawing and calligraphy from common hedgerow plants. The workshop will cover the basics and use the simplest of materials.
In the days prior to the scheduled live zoom workshop, participants will be sent a PDF to help get prepared. This includes a list of what is needed on the day, including plant suggestions from the compost and front garden, as it may not always be possible for everyone to get out and about to a hedge!
The scheduled live workshop is 1-hour duration. Within this hour Annie facilitates everyone making one botanical ink from the comfort of their own home. When the ink is complete, we will explore increasing the spectrum of colour by using some simple household products. There is then half an hour for sharing of results, and Q&A.
In the days after the workshop Annie will send participants a short 10-15 minute video in which she will go over what was covered the day of the workshop and give some extra recipes for binders and pH modifiers, as well as a few more tips!
These workshops are suitable for participants over 16 years of age. Children are more than welcome to participate if accompanied by an adult, as there is work on the stove top to extract colour compounds.
Artist Annie Hogg is the founder of The Wild Hedge Ink Company. Annie makes drawing inks from plants which are found in local hedgerows, and from a small range of metal detritus, often also found in the hedges! Annie's process involves wild harvesting, foraging and a small portion of growing dye plants, crafting these into inks and paints (always following vegan methods) and finally marking paper.
