The Seeker
Getting off in the back off a bus bound for Kerry,
with a magazine meant for women
and a desperate need for love.
Hoping no one can see me and excited by the chance of getting caught.
Me against the world; hated, rejected and despised,
feeling useless and alone, and always in denial:
“it will be okay”, “it's not so bad”,
“I can cope”, “I don't need anyone”.
And you know it was okay,
everything did turn out fine
and I didn't need anyone.
So many bus trips, and other kinds of trips.
So many highs and lows.
So much despair, and jubilation,
and so much searching...
No stone was left unturned and
no opportunity was spurned.
Relentless, persistent and courageous,
like so many before me and so many more to come,
I found what I was looking for
and it wasn't quite what I expected!
